Tips for Staying Motivated

How are the new year goals going? Here are some tips to stay motivated when the New Year Hype starts to wear off.

1. Surround yourself with a community of goal setters or like minded people. Join a gym, get a buddy system going, join a bootcamp, find an online community. This helps you to talk about your goals with people everyday that are working towards the same thing. It helps bring about day to day activity to bring action towards the goal.

2. Pick one or two goals to focus on and break down the steps to the overall goal. Don't set so many big goals without an action plan or you will feel overwhelmed and become immobile. Make the steps attainable so you feel empowered and not defeated. For example. Step one could be making the call to find out more information on fitness class or trainer. Step two could be setting up the appointment Etc. Your overall goal is to lose 10 lbs.

3. Remember you are responsible for your attitude and the energy you put out. You decide your reactions and you have choices. Having a clear picture of what you want helps you to keep your attitude and energy in check instead of focusing on things that you do not want. Put it in writing. Put it in pictures. Put it where you can see what it is you are wanting everyday.

4. Have a reward or purpose that drives you.

5. Put your goal out there. Something happens when you share your goals. It keeps you accountable. Put it on facebook, talk about it, keep them in the front of your mind.

6. Be kind to yourself if you get off track. Don't beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just be sure to get back on.

7. Commit and Decide that this is what you are going to do.

These are terrific, and oft mentioned, methods - but just because they have been said before is all the more reason to believe them. In fact, one of the challenges I face each time I have down-time (and as a tour guide here in New York City the winter is definitely one of those times) is that even though now is the time to re-focus on my goals, I let the accumulations of deferred minor projects get in my way!

So, one of the goals is: one thing at a time to completion!

Thanks for this reminder!
